A REPLY TO AN ENTHUSIASTIC AMATEUR

(First published in “Winged Words” April 1973, in response to a poem “Memoirs of 1964” by D.P. McCartney (“An Enthusiastic Amateur”) in the February 1964 issue)

My friend, I cannot mourn with thee
the passing of the DC3.
It MAY be worth a tiny tear
- but very little else I fear.
For lo! – in yonder Melting Pot,
my DC3 dissolves, God wot,
to metal puddle, blot or blob
of worth or value? ……. Thirty bob!
